Is my chicken hatching?

This is almost 2 days of effort. What should I do?
This is personal choice and most people recommend not intervening but if it was me I’d start very slowly chipping away at the shell, you want to break only the shell and not the membrane in case he hasn’t finished absorbing. Let me find the link to assisted hatching for you in case you decide to intervene

He had his head out but couldn't get anything else out. I started picking the shell away and there was a bad smell around him. The membrane was dried out and his head was dry as well. I felt that he was dying. I picked the membrane off and it was very dry and tough. His hair seems very dry as well. Is there anything to do except let nature take it's course? He is chirping and moving very slightly. What can I do for him?

If there is bits of membrane stuck to him you could put some coconut oil on the membrane to soften and loosen it but for the most part you really want to keep him in the incubator to dry off.Remember as well he just came out of an egg so it can be normal for them to take a little time to get moving. Plus he used up a lot of energy trying to get free- try not to panic. The yolk of the egg he absorbed keeps him fed for now.

He has been out for 8 hrs and still not moving around much. I don't see his left side move at all. He is very vocal . We have tried giving him a bit of egg yolk a few without much success. Fingers crossed that he makes it.

How is he doing now?

He is very weak. I am trying to clean the matted membrane off but it is slow going. His left hip can move but not the rest of the leg.. I started him on sugar water with small improvement. He is too small and weak for his brooder so he is inside. He loves to rock while wrapped in a towel. Any ideas on how to help him?

Well, he didn't make it.

So sorry for your loss.
Unfortunately a lot of the time if they can’t make it out of the egg themselves it’s because they are weak. This is why as I mentioned so many are against assisted hatching. But you did everything you could.
