Is my chicken sick? She is not acting normal.

That sore on the vent isn't related to the hen's behavior, I don't believe. A very easy way to treat it is to spray Vetericyn wound treatment on it twice a day. One squirt and you're done.

Fish mox can be found online also.
ok I gave her a dose of fish mox and I also gave her nutra drench. She is drinking thankfully and eating. She still has diarrhea and is not as active as she should be. We are keeping her inside tonight so we can monitor her. How long does it take for the mox to kick in?

I'm so sorry. With this development, it's highly likely that she got into some anaerobic bacteria, and I've had it kill a chicken of mine in 24 hours of the first symptoms.

Two things I recommend. Watch all your chickens for signs of illness that this hen had, and start them immediately on amoxicillin if you see symptoms. The second is to block off access to the compost pile until you can clean it out and expose the bottom layers to strong sunlight to kill botulism toxin that is likely lurking in that soil.

Ok I will. I feel so bad about this. She used to sneak out somehow and get into the compost. I don't think we will free range them until we make it so the compost is closed off. So far the rest of the flock is doing great. I will definitely keep a close eye on them though. Thank you for your help. Just one more thing, what is the best way to administrate the mox?
