Yeah they seem to be hard to find much on. do hens have big cones like that?

Some breeds have large combs like that so sometimes it is deceiving but one way of telling sometimes is by the hackle and saddle feathers. Hens will usually not have saddle feathers that are bright and colorful as the roosters do. Judging from the photo you posted up, I'm 90% sure that he is a rooster

That's a hen. Colors are less bright and hackle feathers are broad

Agreed that's a hen, a golden laced Wyandotte rooster is colored differently.

How do you tell if silkies are cockerels or pullets? I've got 3, ones got a pointy bantam like tail the other two have rounded tails but I've had them for 4 months and one acts tough like a rooster the other two are really passive. And when do they start laying? Thanks

Around 5 months they either crow or lay an egg. That usually the only way to tell. Silkies are notoriously hard to sex. Good luck with yours!
