Is my cold contagious to my chickens?

Honestly, as Wynette said: NO.

For germs to 'jump' species is a MAJOR DEAL..... remember the Swine Flu?

So, science says, No, not under normal situations, but the commercial boys ain't taken no chances I can tell you that.

You shouldn't be kissing your chicken anyway sick or not: Their crap eaters!

One thing to consider is that by the time you are showing signs of an illness you have been harboring the virus/germ/bacteria for a while. You are a carrier before you show symptoms. So, if you can pass an illness to a bird, you would be doing it before you knew you were sick. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Thanks all. I think I will just take normal precautions. I did wear disposable g loves when I cleaned their waterers. However, I am also a caregiver for my 88 year- old mom, and IVe made other arrangements for her As she really doesn't need this. Neither do I for that matter.Yecch!

Well, at least you're concerned about not spreading it, I have to applaud you for that.

It may not be so much giving the chickens colds, but contaminating the eggs that is the biggest concern? But I wish every employer was as stringent, maybe we could stop transmission of the flu entirely, rather than pass it around.
