Is my dog a problem to the chickens?

My dog likes to run up to the coop and scare the birds is that a problem? If so why? If not just let me know!

I don't like my birds stressed. A predator is stressing out the birds.
Stressed chickens don't ovulate and that means - no eggs.
Stressed chickens aren't as healthy and don't live as long.
Another problem I see is that you are training your dog that his behavior is OK. In that case, if it ever gets the chance to get to them, you will have dead chickens. Dogs are one of the worst chicken predators.

It could stress them out and cause them to stop laying, and if the dog gets through the fence it could do some serious damage to the chickens. I’d be afraid of a chicken dropping dead of a heart attack as well.

Has he tried to kill them? If so, then Yes! Dogs can be a major predator. I have a bird dog that would kill them , therefore I only free range when she is kept in the house. My run is predator proof so they are safe and sound when she is out. Good luck!!!

If the hens are running scared that will harm them, I am saying that because once I saw my hens early in the morning following something across the fence, guess what?, It was a big red fox.

They can also run into a fence or wall in a frenzy and injure themselves, including a broken neck. Again, that results in a dead chicken.

2nd all these posts but don't forget about the dog. It could also entangle itself in fencing causing lacerations or other injury.
