Is my dog a problem?

I have an 8 month old lab/husky mix (refer to my avatar), who spends a lot of time outdoors (with me, while I do my chores). Now, I know that husky's are known for having a high prey drive, and labs are hunting dogs. Plus he'll be a year old, basically fully grown, before we bring the chickens home. Is there some way I can introduce him that he won't try to kill them?? I don't want to have to leave him cooped up while I'm outside all day. Thoughts?

My maltese and mini schnauzer would just love to taste the interesting, amazing, exciting, wonderful smelling chickens that are BIGGER than them. Dogs are dogs no matter how big or what breed I would say.
