Hi, this lil 1 decided to internally pip day 23 goin in to day 24 after 16 hr of no improvement I made the safety hole left in incubator checked again and it seemed like thru the lil whole it was drying out and duckling wasn't chirping trying to but nothing, so opened the egg alil more at air sac end this is wat it looks like, so I used alil bud of warm water and dabbed the membrane and it started chipping and could move alil better obv I can c blood vessels (2nd pic)

so I know not ready so back in incubator, do I keep moisturising the membrane if so how often and anything else I can do now? He's really strong now since I did it, it's day 25 so still early, humidity is at 65 temp at 37.5 x

Yeah you are right he is definitely not ready yet. Just try to keep the membrane moist, I'd check on it every half hour or so and moisten if necessary. He doesn't look shrink wrapped to me. The tough outer membrane is the one more involved in shrink wrap (at least from what I've seen). That thin inner membrane with the blood vessels shouldn't be a big problem as long as you keep it moist and it stays somewhat pliable.

If you haven't read this article on assisted hatching already now would be a good time.

Good luck, if you are careful and follow the steps in the article I would think the little ones chances should be good. :)

Yeah I've had good luck wetting the membrane with a bit of slightly warm water in my assisted hatches with silkie chicks. I tried coconut oil once like is suggested in the article but you have to be careful with that as in my case after only an hour or two it hardened the inner membrane so much that it restricted the chicks breathing.

You're probably in for a bit of a wait, I hear ducklings tend to take a long time. It might be a few days before it's ready. The blood vessels may disappear over the membrane quite a while before it's actually finished absorbing everything. Make sure to wait for indications it is ready to come out before helping it further. Yawning/nibbling motions with the beak indicate it isn't ready yet and is still absorbing.

Aw it's good you've had success before with assisted hatches, glad to hear everything turned out well for your other little guys who needed assisting!

Oh and good luck getting some rest! I've had to do the getting up every half hour to check on assisted babies many a time myself.

Hoping this little one does really well and the rest manage to make it out on their own for you! :fl
