IS MY DUCK SHRINK-WRAPPED?!

Hi I have a duck egg that started yesterday. But apparently his beak never punctured through the air cell and he is stuck. We pipped his egg to see if he was alive anymore cause he stopped wiggling. At first, we through he was dead cause we saw no movement and he wasn't in tr air cell (it's day 29 btw) but then he began moving a little. He has been like this all day and has made no progress, but seems to push against the membrane. The air cell membrane is white/chalky colored with some grey in it and is scrunched up in a few places. But the little duckling is still alive. Is he shrink wrapped? I need urgent replys on this- it could be the life or death of my duckling!!!!!!

Take a pair of tweezers pour alcohol on them to sterlize them, then where the pip is very carefully pull just a tiny bit of shell away then pull just a tiny bit of membrane. you only want to pull away a tiny bit of membrane because you don't want to hit a blood vessel. I am assuming this egg is in a bator? after you do this take a paper towel and make sure as much of the water as you can get is out warm water by the way. then wrap the egg in the towel let it rest for about an hour then check again and see if any progress is being made, you can try to pull away tiny bits of shell and membrane but I mean only tiny because if you see bleeding STOP or it can bleed to death. just remember once you start to help you may be up the rest of the night helping. when i helped my duckling hatch and she was under a duck, it was an all day job, I only pulled away enough of the shell and membrane so she could make her way out on her own. she hatched on her own the next morning. I had pulled away about a quater size of shell and membrane. you may have to do more, I also sprayed her with warm water each time I worked on her she actually at one point she drank some of the water when i spritzed her she stated hatching on Friday and was till monday morning before hatched out,. Hopefully others who have more experience with hatching can also give advise.

Okay another thing to take into consideration is just because it's day 29 doesn't mean it is meant to hatch on day 29. It can take as long as 36 hrs for them to hatch. I can't see the membrane on your egg, I just know the membrane on my duckling was like hard paper, dried out.

Well... He didn't make it... We took him out of his shell, cause we wanted to prevent a slow and painful death of suffocation- he was too weak and his head was in the small end of the shell. We buried him out in our garden and said our goodbyes...
 
I searched on Craig's list and the closest ducklings for sale is a 3 hour drive or more away from where I live :( if anyone on byc has ducklings I'd be happy to buy one or two... But mostly I'm just having a bad day...

It takes 2-3 days for ducklings to hatch. From internal pip, visable with light only into the air cell, to ext. pip is 24 hours at least usually. Then, 2 days of waiting for ducks that work and sleep. Now that you've pipped, you'll have to keep putting dampness into the whole via q-tip, or a very light misting (which I do, but its not for everyone, I mist, wait, and pour out excess water to avoid drowning the baby.) Best not to interfere. They are very very weak until they build up streght through the trial of the hatch. Early pips must be forced to wait the needed time for them to be prepared to live outside the egg.

I'm sorry you lost this one. You must simply wait and let nature take its course in the future. It can be very hard to wait, I know.
