Is my duck sick?

My duck woke up with a cough. Is it normal or does it sound sick? If it’s sick what should I do? They have lots of access to deep water. I currently have pine shavings in their coop but am changing that to straw.

Physically he looks fine. Hopefully he just had something caught in his throat. At this point, I would just keep an eye on him.

it does sound like he may have got a feather or piece of pine chip in his throat and he’s just coughing it out. Pine chips are fine for bedding though, I still use them after nine years of ducks no one has died from pine chips ( pine flakes really)
I also use straw sometimes I put the straw on top of the pine flakes just be careful with straw and first you should smell it make sure there’s no musty odor because I had a bad bail once and a couple of my ducks got aspergillosis from breathing in the aspergillus mold spores, which is very difficult respiratory illness to cure.
But yeah, just watch your duck for now. There are several things a cough could indicate but most likely just some thing he’s clearing out of his throat,. I’ll try to link you to the Majestic waterfall sanctuary symptoms, chart for ducks geese. It’s always been very helpful to me. brb
