i have geese and i let them out of the barn today. to my surprise the friendlest out of them is sitting on a nest of eggs and when i go to approach her she hisses at me. which she never does. my question is could these eggs be fertile? she has about 6-8 eggs under her. should i put them in the barn with her at night? i dont know what to do i dont want to disturb her nest. i put all my geese in a barn at night. this is the first time and first possible batch of fertile eggs. please help and let me know. should i bring them in and me incubat them? or put them in the barn and just leave her in there till they hatch? and the problem is these eggs she laid outside and should i move them?

Hi

I would take it as a yes or maybe she is just broody. I would try and section her off from the others by making her a sort of nesting box area around where she is. I would also try and ensure food and water was close by.

Seeing as it is 30-34 days hatch time for geese then I would try to keep her time there peaceful.

the problem is she layed them outside and i put all my geese in a barn at night due to raccoons foxes and bears. would it be ok to put them eggs in the barn with her will she still claim and sit on the eggs?

It sound like you have no choice but to move the nest, or you will loose the eggs and the goose. She may not stay on the nest. I tried moving my goose and she just keep going back to the location of her choice. I was able to put a dog kennel around her, but I don't have bears in my yard.

You need to move the nest, you need to check the eggs as well so of they aren't fertile you can take them all away and break her being broody in the heat. Chances they are fertile is low since its basically July and past normal breeding season.

because they are geese, they dont have hands, their mouths are how they investigate thing, give warnings ect. Their hormones are increasing and they become more dominate leading into and during breeding season.

last but not least, they arent lap pets and shouldnt be hand fed as both can lead to bad behavior from towards humans.
