Is my hen about to lay?

My hen will squat down in front of me.
She's been very vocal for 2 days.
Randomly jumps up in the coop and scratches around in the nesting boxes for a long time comes out and goes back in to do it again, is she gonna lay soon??

if she’s around 18-24 weeks, then it’s a very high possibility that she is getting ready to lay. that seems like all the behavior leading up to it. though, you might want to make sure she doesn’t become egg-bound. it doesn’t happen often, but there’s a higher risk in first time layers.

Nest messing is the surest sign eggs that are imminent.

yes! it sounded like she was was definitely going to lay soon. the first ones are always so tiny, but they eventually get bigger
