Whenever I go near one hen in particular, my 17 week barred rock, she always makes a kind of squawking noise. I'm not sure if she is upset at me, and being territorial, but I'm wondering if she has layed an egg somewhere and I do not know about it, because we free range our chickens. HOW CAN I TRAIN THE HENS TO LAY IN THEIR COOP!? Also I have put three 5 gallon buckets with wood shavings on the bottom of their coop for 6 hens, will that be enough? Or should they have straw and the buckets raised off of the ground. Thanks!

Mine do that (make a lot of noise) when they want to get let out of the run.
I have never used buckets at boxes so can't comment on that. I guess if the bucket does not roll around it would work fine. I think the rule is 1 box for 3 hens, even though there people who say they have a bunch of boxes and only one or two get used.
Try putting one of there eggs in the box? I think that works for most people
