Between 12 and 16 weeks is when cockerels really start looking different from pullets. I'm guessing your chick didn't 'change' gender, but was a cockerel all along.
I guess I'm a bit confused because she has no comb or waddle but when it starts crowing I'll make a decision where it will live. Thank you for the information. I'll post a picture later and ya'll will see what I'm seeing. Thank you.
As I mentioned I will keep posting on the thread with any updates or changes as they may be of assistance and good for future reference.
By yesterday afternoon Dusty was back to being a normal hen and keeping her meal worms for herself; no grumbling, protecting, feeding etc.
We are having some freakish weather at the moment. We live in a fairly stable, sub tropical climate with warm or hot weather for most of the year. We do not really have a summer and winter per say, more of a wet season and dry season. In our wet season December to February we average a 30C maximum [86F] with high humidity and in the dry season the average maximum is 17C [62-63F].
We are in what could be described as our winter at the moment, where temperatures normally range from minimum of 11C to maximum of 21C with very little rain fall.
However, over the last couple of weeks we have had some rain and temperatures have been fluctuating, some nights the minimum has been 6-9C [42-43F] and others 17C [62-63F]. Yesterday we had a minimum of 11C [51-52F] and maximum of 23C [73F] whereas today, the minimum was 6C [42-43F] and the maximum is only predicted to be 17C [62.5F] with 40-50 km/hour winds.
So, while our weather is normally fairly stable, we have been experiencing abnormal highs and lows in temps over a period of a few days for this time of year, plus rain and cloudy to sunny, sunny to cloudy etc; anything but stable.
To get to the point, my thought process is that the unusual fluctuation in temperatures and conditions may be what is causing Dusty to behave strangely.
I probably won't get much of chance to watch her extensively today because my gals do not like the wind at all and the 40-50km/hour winds have them all hiding under or in the coop
