Hey All.

This little girl(hoping) is 5 months old. It is a mutt or mix, that seems to have some BCM in it. There are no spurs on the legs, but in the last month the shoulder feathers have gotten more pointed and the tail feathers extended. I hope its a girl, we cant have a roo here:(

Not good as sexing but it looks like a roo. I don't think hens have tail feathers like that.

Aww.

thanks all for the gender.

i thought due to the light wattles and small comb it may be a girl, also was hoping the long feathers were just a result of the barnyard mixture

i am not arguing, but wouldn't a roo at 5 months be more, erm, like a roo, with redder wattles and comb and spurs?and more dominant?my tiny black pullet pekins boss him around still!

You can also tell roo by that color. A similar colored hen will have the light color on the neck but not on the wing or down the back. That lighter color will increase as he ages.

An older roo can keep a less dominant roo in check for quite a while. Depending on the younger roos temperment, he might challenge the older guy at four months, or maybe not until he's over a year.

comb and wattles say pullet but this ones a cockerel. his over all body color along with the saddle feathers coming in and the way his tail it makes him 110% cockerel

Well, you were all right. I have just heard his first attempts at crowing today. I wish i could keep him, he is so friendly and comes to his name, but i am worried about leaving him with my 4 cochin bantam pullets. I am scared he might hurt them
