Is my new chicken a frizzle or frazzle?

He looks like a normal frizzle to me. Even if he was a frazzle, you could still breed him. All offspring would be normal frizzles, no frazzles. It's only breeding Frizzle x frizzle, frazzle x frizzle, or frazzle x frazzle that will make frazzles.

I thinj that spot is just the down. He certainly isnt as nice looking as my frizzled gal, but all the frazzled I see are mostly naked within weeks of fully feathering out because it's so easy to break feathers

I have very little knowledge of these breeds but I have a question about genetics. Obviously a frazzle is not ethical to breed FOR, but wouldn't a frazzle still just contribute 1 copy of the frizzle gene & therefore, when bred to a regular chicken, make frizzles, not more frazzles? Unless you mean the rooster should be culled if it is a frazzle (which is definitely valid).

I actually just read up on that and found that out so you are correct! I won't cull him unless he has health issues.

No, his feathers just aren't nice perfect symmetrical curls like my girl. But I think most Frizzle Cochins look like he does

Please forgive me for barging in here @Jamesthesilkie but I wanted to comment to @JacinLarkwell . You must have a gorgeous flock. I have admired at least (probably more) a few of your birds now. May I please see a pic of this bird? I love admiring other people's birds.

@Jamesthesilkie , this one's name is "Peanut"? So cute! I think he's adorable! My only frizzle is a white bantam cochin and he is so funny and handsome! Your new little guy must be a busy body or at least he appears to be in this picture.

My frizzled cochin only has upward curves to his feathers. Seeing these curls does look a bit suspicious so I see where @Jamesthesilkie was concerned. Either way, I hope this cutie lives a very happy and healthy life.
