IS MY OUT OF THE CLOSET ROO INTIMIDATING THE OTHERS TO STAY INCOGNITO?

My ten chicks are now almost 10 weeks old; about two weeks ago the one and only Black Sex Link started its pitiful attempts at crowing (funny!) and I was sure that any other roos would soon follow suit.....not! Not a coughing sound out of a one of them! My question is, could the one roo be intimidating any other roos into staying quiet?

Is there an Alpha Roo thing going on? I am almost positive there are at least two more roos (they are much larger than the others).

I think it has more to do with breed. My Silver Gray Dorking crowed at 6 weeks. My Phoenix crowed at 8 weeks. Their offspring all started crowing around the same time. Some people have roosters that don't crow for 5/6 months - and up to a year or so.

When my roosters were cockerels, they all crowed when ever they wanted. As adults, I notice the alpha roo crows the most - not sure if he's just a big mouth, or if it's the fact that he is the alpha roo.

My subordinate roo stayed incognito pretty well - even screaming like a little sissy girl - until I re-homed my alpha. After that it was Katie bar the door. He's a big bad manly roo now.

My Cochin didn't crow utnil he was 5 months old and he was the only roo. We thought we'd gotten a silent roo. He turned out not to be a big crower, maybe 3 or 4 times a day if that, sometimes no crows for days.
