Okay good-ish news. We should be able to drop rooster off at his new home next Tuesday, and my little chicks and my adult hens are fine with being around each other so i think they may integrate fully pretty fast after rooster is gone. I'm gonna miss him, getting a new rooster on purpose is apparently out of the question (by command of my parents) so I'm just going to need to wait until i end up with one. I'm going to hatch silkies early next year so maybe I'll end up with a little silkie boy then :D i was going to adopt the silkie roos from a shelter nearby but my family won't allow it.
It’s much easier on your girls if they’re mature and laying when a rooster comes into the picture.
My Silkie boy matured slower than the LF boys and it’s taking a long time for the bantam pullets to accept him.
He’s a very good boy though and I look forward to when his little hens learn to trust him and stay with him more.
This is Silkie

Awesome news. Silkies are usually really chill based on my short experience :).

So are Buff Orpington, especially if you raised him as a chick, BuffO are really "loyal" for some reasons, I've raised 2 batches and both times, I was still "mom" well into their 20's (10months in chicken years lol).

I also had a 15lb light brahma rooster a few years ago... the sweetest guy, he would wait outside the coop at night, make sure everybody was in, then cuttle with the younger hens. He would jump on my lap anytime he found me. Again raised him as a baby chick, I think that's the key here.

Yeah i didn't raise rooster, i think his previous situation messed up his head a little bit. And it's looking like I'll end up sith a silky rooster one day, what my parents ment is we won't go out of our way to get one but if we end up with one who's not to loud then maybe we can keep him. I'm sure I'll end up with one or two roosters, next time my hens go broody I'm going to give them silky eggs and I'll keep the cockerels that come out of that. I really wanted to adopt those poor silkies near me, but it's just not possible. I know those poor things are going to be there forever so i wanted to get them early next spring but it's just not happening.
Thank you :D

Oh also, my chicks just spent their first night in the coop with the big chickens, i can't believe how big they are now it was like yesterday they were just little puffballs that arrived in the mail one morning.

Love your story Jemma.
My frizzle bantam came to me with 4 babies just 2 weeks old. One rooster just attached himself to me, probably because he was so lovely I picked him up every day. Any way we live in the suburbs in Australia and cant keep roos so when he started crowing I would bring him inside at 5am and make sure all the doors and windows were closed hoping he wouldn't be heard, but of course at that time in the morning when the world is still you could hear him a mile away. I tried for 4 weeks to find him a home but no luck so took him to the local vet to have him put down. I couldn't bear the thought of him being mistreated or worse still bought by someone through the local paper that may use him for cockfighting. Although illegal it still goes on. My roo "Churchill" was his name used to come inside when the girls had gone to bed and watch TV on the sofa arm for about 30 mins then he went off to bed too. Funny thing he was. He was still young though but I noticed over a few weeks he was starting to get aggressive with me, pecking my hand quite hard like yours did and I realised he was trying to dominate me like he was the other chickens. He was obviously getting ready for mating season. So I cried for days on and off, its amazing how attached we get to these chickens, but I knew this was the best choice. He had a short but very happy life until the end. So I do feel for you at this time. The good thing is yours has gone to another good home and your girls will all be happier now. Good luck finding a new man for the coop.
Sonya
