I have a Barred Rock rooster, about 8 months old, who seems to be having trouble servicing the hens. His timing and/or approach are off and the hen end up getting away.
I had two rooster of the same breed and age. The more dominant rooster did not have these problems. Unfortunately, he began acting aggressive towards people so I got rid of him about three weeks ago. I assumed the remaining rooster would rise to the occasion.
I have the one rooster, one hen about a year old, two hens that have just hatched chicks, and a hen about five months old who hasn't starting laying yet. So the rooster really only has one hen available to him now.
My questions are: Will he become more proficient? Are the hens just refusing him because he was the "junior" rooster? Will the hens accept his advances in the future?
Thanks in advance for your help.
