Is my rooster pet quality or ok for breeding quality?

Well...See you learn somthing everyday. I love this site..LOL...No I'm not trying to produce show winners with him just some beautiful birds and thanks I think he is somthing special!

I really like his tail, and how compact he is. Besides the red comb, I think he is a lovely choice for a breeding cock. His comb is also very small which is good to have in silkies. I say breed him to some ladies with dark combs and you'll have some very nice chicks!

The standards call for a dark mulberry comb leading to black. When in doubt, I always go the the HatTrick website to see what show quality birds look like. While Janet and Niki are not the only breeders of fine Silkies, I like their website with all the lovely photos. You can also check out the American Bantam Silkie Website. They have the standards printed there.

The crest on the male is not as full as the female and I would not worry about that as much as the off color in the comb. JMHO>
