Is my silkie a blue or black?

Wow guess you really can’t tell when they are chicks. I though my white baby was going to be white and my tan a buff . My EE who I thought for sure was going to be colorful is all black (though she was a dark chick). .

I believe you bird is blue but so dark it looks black. I have been researching breeding paints and that is when I found out it’s always recommend to test breed black Silkies to splash to ensure it is not a dark blue. It’s pretty common for a dark blue Silkie to be mistaken for a black then it muddles up you paint breeding.

I have one that was sold to me by a breeder as a blue. She's pretty dark!

Thank you--I'm pretty fond of her myself! We'll see if she gets any lighter in color. Right now she's about 14 weeks old.
