Is my sons favorite chicken a roo?!

How old is your son? Have you told him yet? Probobly best to rehome him now. You could look into neutering him (I forget what that's called in roos 😳) Wich reduces aggression and crowing. But its a risky and expensive surgery.

caponizing turns the rooster into a weird hen -like thing that doesn’t lay eggs, not my cup of tea but might be somebody else’s. It’s a dangerous procedure that has to be done while the bird is awake as anesthesia is pretty lethal. Perhaps the egg deal as mentioned before would work better in your situation? Best of luck, He’s a cute one :hugs

I keep telling him that I think it's a roo, but he shakes his head and refuses to believe me. He's a softy like his mama.

Yea, that sounds terrible. I'd rather him live a rooster life somewhere if I can find a taker in Florida.

The HOA is pretty adamant about roosters but here's hoping!

How old, I'm a kid also, so I know what its like to lose a pet young. My roo Dragon😢
I understand not share,g his age on a public forum of course, but, for instance I'm a bit on the older side, so I had an easier time taking the news than say an 8 year old. With a kiddo that age you might just need to tell him what's going to happen, then go out for ice cream later or something.

@Chickenhappy8708 makes a good point, maybe whoever you rehome them to could send picture updates or allow time for your son to see him? How friendly is the cockerel? Is that why he’s your sons favorite?
To my understanding, he's is a dramatic little stinker. I got 1 picture update with the lady who took him. She does have like 2 little kids though, so I get it. I'm sure many people here on BYC would be more than happy to send pic updates, a little to happy at times...

Thank you for giving me a kids perspective! He's 10 and is always up for ice cream!

I really have no idea why he's my son's favorite. He's through and through a Lakenvelder and not overly friendly. He doesn't care to be picked up or played with. But when we got him as a day old chick my son fell in love and claimed him.
