Is Peepers sick? (pics inside)

If it is cocci I think that I used Sulmet or sumet there are a few different medications for it. You need to know that it is or isn't. I am thinking that it is because of the puffyness and the droppy wings. You will know pretty soon if it is.

When I pulled her out of the brooder and put her in her own plastic tub she pooped I think. It was clear with white blobs in it very watery.

It didn't really look like any of the pictures though.

Yes, that is what the medicated feed is for. Sulmet and Corid are the only two treatments I know of. Corid is amprolium, the same thing that is is most medicated feed. It blocks thiamine uptake in the cocci, slowing their growth til the chicken can build a natural immunity. Sulmet is an antibiotic, and is rougher on them than Corid is. There are different strains of cocci. I don't think Sulmet will treat all strains of cocci. Of course, a vet making these determinations would be the ideal way to go, though not feasible for many of us.

Cocci are in the soil so the chick would have had to be exposed to the soil or to other chickens who have been on the soil. Some areas have much heavier concentrations in the soil than others.

It is possible your county extension agent would have some information on chicken diseases in your area that you would find helpful.

That is how my chicks poo was. I am thinking cocci, I hate to sound cold but if it is the chick will die real fast. Others will follow, Maybe if you take a picture of the poop someone can step up that has more knowledge.

DDAWN sounds like she knows. I did not have my chicks on the ground I just had way to many chicks in the brooder and didn't clean it out as much as should had. That is how my chicks got it. I will never hatch out so many chicks again. I will also clean my brooder ever day when I have babies. I just slacked and paid the ultimate price.

I only know what I've read here; never had the problem with mine.

Lots and lots about cocci on here.

I don't think I've done anything wrong up to this point because she showed up ill looking. My brooder is getting completely cleaned every other day. Thanks for the information guys. I'm going to make the rounds to the feed stores and see what I can find to hopefully save this chickie. I'll also be watching my other chicks to see how their poop looks and separate anyone who doesn't look right just in case

I had it once DDAWN and I felt horrible. I hatched out like 75 eggs. I did not think everyone would hatch, because they were shipped eggs. low and behold every single egg hatched. After the 15th one hatched I started getting scared, I did not have any help with this sight. I did not know about it. I was always told that shipped eggs do not hatch well. I am here to tell you that I should had counted my chicks before they hatched.

Thanks for the info

The chick showed up like this so I'm thinking she came somewhere she might have been in contact with cocci if that's what she has. I'm going to worm her, keep her on her medicated and give her some vitamins and hope for the best

I'll also ask for some advice from the feed stores around here maybe I can find a old timer that is familiar with chickens to get some first hand advice.
I'll be watching my other chicks closely as well. They have all been outside once in my yard but it was laid with sod and fresh top soil last fall. Who knows where that came from... I'll do more research about my area as you suggested though
