This little Dominique is making me nervous. She is very assertive, runs out to check on problems when the other 3 hide, seems to be a leader, etc. I'm hoping she is just a strong willed hen, but I figured it was worth posting. I've seen some posts about sexing Doms by their head spot, but she doesn't really have one. A little bit of lightness above her eyes, but that's it. Let me know if I need to take another picture, I know these aren't the greatest. My husband might have some on his phone, I'll update later with more if he does. She's about a week and a half now, I think she was about 5 days old in the pic, but I'm not 100%.

It's too young to be absolutely sure, but given the very tiny white spot on top of the head and the black wash on the front of the legs, I'm leaning toward a pullet. When it completely feathers out you should know for sure as female Dominiques have dark barring and male Dominiques have lighter barring.

I'm not sure that is a Dominique. I don't see a head spot. I can't tell comb style from the pics. It's too early to tell gender if it's not a pure barred bird.

You could be right. My thought when I looked at it was "that's not much of a white spot on top of the head."

That is certainly possible. I'll have to post again when she gets a little older to see if we can confirm what she is. I'm happy as long as she's a hen, heh.

Thanks y'all!

You're welcome. I'll look forward to seeing its pic again when it's older.
