Is pyrethem toxic to chickens

Have make chicken pale comb, low in energy. Some red lice I think and black dots between feathers, more towards butt. I treated last 2 weeks with diatomaceous earth one a week. Was recommended pyrethem. Seems to be a neuro toxin For humans and a endocrine disruptor. Is this safe for chickens. Do I wear a respirator?

Its literally half as dangerous as a bottle of 80 proof vodka. (as In, you would need to drink twice as much to have a 50/50 shot at dying, the "ldl50")

No, you don't need a respirator. Yes, its fine to use on chickens. Best kept away from cats (they lack an enzyme which allows most mammals to quickly break it down), fish, and of course insects.

So today Bjorn took a bad turn. Looked like he was about to die.
His comb got worse, check the photo. He also has black dots couldn't take a photo since they are so small. He was very weak. I followed my instinct and took him into the garage.
I put 1/2 of a multivitamin into a syringe and gave it to him. He could barely drink, so I put his beak in the water and and within 30 minutes got some water into him. I understand that yogurt helps mites and lice so I put pistachio non lactose yogurt into a bowl. Slowly made. Progress. Then I sprinkled the top with a little organic chick started figuring He must be malnourished from his ordeal today, and higher protein would be OK in this circumstance. I think what may have been bad was I soaked his bottom in water hoping to drown the bugs and thus helping him a bit. He really trusts me but it seemed to mess him up and was extremely shaken up by that. He could barely move. At the moment he is starting to eat the yogurt by himself so that is a good sign I guess. I hope he doesn't die. I held him and gave him lots of love. Any suggestions for my learning, thanks for your 1st post to me.

and you can often find a 10% permethrin spray (which is adequite to the task) at TSC, Ace and the rest, typically labeled as Equine fly spray. You don't need the big bottle of "mix your own".

Sorry about your rooster. He looks sickly. It sounds like he has poultry mites which can cause anemia and eventually death if not treated. How long have his eyes and comb looked like that? Does he have peeling skin in other areas? Pyrethrins are a plant based insecticide, where pemethrin is a chemical similar to it. I think the pat permethrin works better. You can buy ready made permethrin spray or the garden dust to treat your rooster. Be careful if using permethrin 10concentrate, to mix it with water according to label directions. The ready to use spray is easier.

You must treat him at 5-7 day intervals until they are gone, because the eggs will hatch out. Nothing treats the eggs, so they must be treated before they are old enough to lay more eggs. Your coop should be cleaned out after emptying the old bedding. Straw bedding can be a way of bringing in more mites. Pine shavings would be better. Mites hide in cracks and crevices of coops and buildings. I would offer him a little cooked liver or a little Poultry NutriDrench 1 ml daily as a boost.

His eyelid looks swollen. Has he ever had any respiratory symptoms. His comb and face looks dry and flaky. Something else may be going on with him. I might think about using some coconut oil to rub into his skin and comb.
