Is Red Lake Earth right DE?

Oh no! How horrible, I'm so sorry. I just barely dusted their feed with it once, and used it on the bedding, thank you for the warning, I will only use the rest for ground application.

How much did you use, if you don't mind me asking?

You know, your post is really making me wonder. I put just a little bit of RLE in their feed (the day before reading this), in their nest box hay, and scattered a little dust around the grass.

The following day, my 11 hens, who have given between 7-9 eggs every single day, only laid 2 eggs.

Needless to say, I won't be using it anymore. I did notice that there were no flies around the run after scattering it, so I may continue to use it in the garden, but not in live animal feed ever again.

I will call the feedstore and try to see if they can (hopefully) order the Perma-Guard for me instead.

I use the Red Lake DE and there is nothing wrong with it. However they do add clay to the mix. This helps with digestion so you don't have to worry about giving them grit. However I still give them grit. They also like to lie in and dust themselves with it. Which in return keeps they mites off.
The Red Lake DE comes from Ga. and that's pretty much all the feed stores carry around here.

I have been using RLE now for two years. Put it in their food, nests, coop, and occasionally use a flour sifter to dust them with it.

Never had a single problem.

God Bless,

I know people who have used Red Lake Earth for years and none of their chickens have died or became ill because of it.
The difference in price is why they use it, much cheaper and does the same thing.

Wow 40 lb bag of Red Lake Earth for $17. that is great. I just bought the 6 lb container at my local feed supply for.......... now hold on..... the same price.

The RLE 40 bag was all my local store had so I got a bag last week for $15. I put some in the shed under the wood shavings, and a bit in the dirt holes the 6 hens like to sit in. I sure hope they don't get sick from this DE mix.My mix has the DE and clay and is a reddish color.

I am wondering if the deaths were due to the animals inhaling the dust?So sorry for your loss. Has the company been contacted about the deaths to see what they say?
