Is Scrando a roo?

Leg color is no big indicator of anything besides what skin color they have plus if they have Id or not(Id inhibits pigmentation in a specific layer of skin in legs).

Yellow skin plus Id- yellow legs.

Yellow skin plus doesnt have Id- green legs.

White skin plus Id- white legs.

White skin plus doesn't have Id- blue legs.

Those birds are not jungle fowl. They superficially look like them but there are vast differences between them and pure jungle fowl (keep in mind most captive red junglefowl are not pure). Main differences are, junglefowl are much smaller, keep their tails completely horizontal, longer and very skinny legs, very few sickles on roosters, on many the longest sickles are almost straight with only a slight curve, never 'droops', the shorter sickes are very short and few in number. Truly completely 'unpolluted' male red jungefowls go through an eclipse plumage phase.

Cheeto is a girl, no question about it. She is already showing very clearly the wheaten hen color pattern. Her color will be same as an adult except 'sharper' like the hen in second picture. Wheaten male chicks start showing dark colors on body from extremely early age- mere weeks old.

Kev, thanks for the info. That's very interesting. The feral chickens here in hawaii are probably all mixed up I imagine. I believe they do have alot of game in them, as I've heard. I've also read they are descendents of red junglefowl, so these guys probably have a little in them right? Does feathers on their legs mean anything?

You said Cheeto may start to look like the hen in the other picture. That is my first chicken friend, Casino. The one who got me hooked on chickens. Here is what she looks like today.

sdeneen2001 - that is funny. I think that is what they are saying! That is Casino with her very first boyfriend, Poker Face. After becoming friends as adolescents and growing up into maturity, Poker Face decided one day to run off with another hen. And after Casino taught him that us people are friendly and give good treats! Casino was sad for a few days but then decided, good riddance. More food for me now! But I guess he really got her set on a "type" of man. Because now she only becomes friends with roosters who look just like him. First, there was Zack, who she had two kids with, then Emilio, and then most recently Bart. But I think she just uses them and then moves on. I thought you might enjoy this picture of them together also. I call it Synchronized Cleaning.
