Is she a he?

My ancona female grew a large comb very quickly. By 4 months old, an ancona cockerel would have sickle feathers in his tail. That's the best clue right there, to me.

Thank you all for your advice. I figured she was a pullet because of teh lack of sickle feathers but I wasn't 100% sure.

Kelly,
ok, I must have defective ancona.
I have a trio that is 5 months old and my cockeral looks like that and my pullets have smaller combs and no wattles.

I had an Ancona pullet (this one's sister) that had a much smaller comb and wattles, but we had to give her away as she got very agressive with me. As in attacking me whenever I got with in 5 feet of her, the other hens, or "her" garden. We have no idea why she started doing this other than that maybe she sensed I was pregnant and didn't like the way I now "smell"? Not, ahem, that I smell mind you, just my hormoones are different so maybe to a hen I smell different? At least tht was what I thought. ANYWAY there must be some room for variation among Anconas for cmobs and wattles....

I was told they are supposed to lay well. I read somewhere they think they were developed from leghorns so it makes sense

From what I read, they are a mediterreanean breed and they lay about 4 eggs a week, not an extreme amount, but enough for my family's needs.
