Hi guys, I have been scratching my brain about the breed of this girl for months now. I thought she might be a Lavender Orpington due to the colouring but she doesn't have quite as much feathering going on as some of the breeds I've seen online, so I'm not entirely sure. She is rather heavy though. She also lays a light creamy coloured egg. She was already living on the property when we moved in a few months ago so no one had any idea for sure about her breed. Any help is much appreciated

I'm far from a expert but she looks like a Lav Orp to me as well.

I don't think so. If you look closely at the image, it appears she has barring. I would say she is a mix. Possibly Orp in her background.

Also, did you notice she has scaly leg mites? I hope I'm not overstepping. :hide

Whatever she is, she is absolutely stunning!

I hatched one who is growing to look like her. Her mother is a buff and her father a barred rock.

I also wondered about the mottled colouring. Either way I love her colouring and we are always getting people commenting on her.
She is constantly trying to go broody on us at the moment. Unfortunately our Buff Sussex beat her to it this year and hatched 7 chicks. Two of which look suspiciously like our Lavender girl

She does have a sister who is barred rock mix so maybe there was a BR rooster living here before we came along.
I also have another hen who looks just like her (Plump

) but pure black. So I think there was a bit of mixing going on somewhere

I guess that's what happens when you leave them to their own devices for too long lol

@Aoxa, Unfortunately the whole flock were riddled with leg mites when we moved in here. Possibly from being abandoned here for 2 months prior to us moving in and their coop not being maintained. I wasn't much of an expert on chickens when we moved in so it took me a while to realise they had a problem. I tried applying cooking oil to their legs every night after they went in to roost but it didn't have the effect I was hoping for. Possibly because they had it for so long? I'm going to try some vaseline this week. Here's hoping that it works!

I was going to say it looks like a cuckoo pattern, but very light. I didn't know there was such a thing as lavendar cuckoo, but that's what I would call it if I had to choose!

is it just me or does the earlobes looks whitish?

for the leg mites: i use vegetable oil with seven dust mixed in and take an old toothbrush and scrub it in and under the leg scales. i have also done the same with Vaseline, both of these work the cooking oil did take a few days longer and applied once to twice a day but giving the amount of chickens we have its cheaper to use the cooking oil. (but it wasn't that bad though)
