Hey everyone,

I need help figuring out if one of my buff orpingtons is a pullet or a cockerel. This is my first time keeping chickens, but my dad who’s helping me on my chicken keeping journey has had them once before a long time ago. He insists that Marigold is, in fact, a pullet but I have some sad suspicions as if she is a cockerel she’ll have to be given away. ☹ So really I’d just like to emotionally prepare myself for giving up one of my first chickens. Anyway, I’ve attached a picture (she doesn’t hold still very long so I only have this one).

I should also mention that she is almost eight weeks old next Saturday, and doesn’t necessarily act like a cockerel, and I’m basing my thoughts solely on the fact that her comb an wattle are pinker and further developed that her other two buff Orpington sisters. I’ve heard somewhere that that doesn’t always mean it’s a male, but I don’t think I can handle waiting until she’s older to find out that she’s a he.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it’s the news I’m dreading ☹

Edit: I’ve added more photos of the comb an wattles, hopefully that makes it a little clearer?
