she starting to squat so how long after squatting do they start to lay

Again, that isn't as definitive of an indicator as the space between pelvic bones.

I know lots of people use that as a sign but it's possible for a hen to squat and never lay an egg.

Good. Now you know laying isn't imminent.
The pelvic bone spread will usually coincide with combs and wattles becoming enlarged and red. That's the sign of sexual maturity. An egg can't pass till the bones spread to accommodate.

:Yes. The hen does look about ready to lay and probably will be soon. But there is no guarantee; some hens just take longer for whatever reason. Hopefully you will get eggs soon.
