So probably about a month ago, my black austrolorp hen hatched two little babies. Nice. We don’t intervene the broods since we have the room. Well today I caught her standing atop a nest with two duck eggs and a chicken egg which is not hers and slowly start to sit while nestling one of the eggs closer to her. She then picked up a feather almost like to fortify the nest and then got spooked by all the flock SCREAMING because someone jumped up on the roost. Is she going broody again? Or is she just vibing?

Like a week or more?
Pretty early for weaning, she may indeed be a serial broody.
BTDT, PITA.
Yeah I was actually surprised that she left them alone so early. They were still baby fluffy when she started leaving them. So yeah, more than a week.

How did that work out. I have a hen trying to take over my Muscovy clutch right now. I’m not sure how to proceed.
The other hen made her own nest. But I did a couple years ago had a broody chicken and broody duck both sitting on nests. They were both up to eat and the chicken saw the “abandoned” nest and tried to sit on it. The duck came back and the hen and duck had a bit of a mom fight. The duck ended up running off the chicken and reclaimed her nest. Maybe give the home invader something to sit on??
