Is Shredded Paper Safe to use in Deep Litter Method?

There is a large quantity of shredded paper at the place where I work, and they are looking for someone to take it off their hands. Is it safe to use in deep litter? Thank you!

I'd think it would be great! It will break down pretty fast, but the price can't be beat.
