So in a matter of just a few weeks, I have no grass left in my coop. Can I throw a few pieces of sod in there? It doesn't have any chemicals I need to worry about, does it?

They go through grass pretty quick. You could give them some sod to scratch through - They may have some weed killer sprayed on them at some point though. You could give them some mulched grass clippings from your own yard, But be careful about a lot of long grass all at once that may lead to impacted crops. Or you could be like me and pick dandelion greens for them to eat.

I've seen people post "salad bars" in their chicken runs. Just hardware cloth frames that the grass grows up through. Then the chickens can only pick at the grass that is long enough to poke out the top.

Thanks all, I think I will try the salad bar idea. I felt terrible today because one of my chickens escaped to run over and eat some grass, LOL! So I put a bowl of grated carrot, lettuce, grapes, tomatoes, strawberries, and cornbread in the coop.
