Is The Economy Still Affecting You (and Your Family)?

We own a small family run plumbing business--- we were a union shop until we couldn't keep up with the ever rising costs--- we would of had to lay people off to be able to pay the benefits--- my husband and I decided it was better to get out of the union and keep our guys employed and provide our own health insurance for everyone--- we got the same coverage for all of us for about the same amount the union was charging for just my husband and I. Then they turned around a sued us for breach of contract---

Mind you we are a tiny company!!! DH talked to them for months about the costs and they kept telling him "oh don't worry--- do what you can" then they turned around and sued us the months we just didn't have the money--- on top of the remaining "term of the contract" which was 10 more months

. since 2007 our sales revenue has gone down by 3/4's. Understandably people are not doing the remodeling, building, etc that was our big ticket projects--- now it's just what absolutely has to be fixed and many people are becoming do-it-yourselfers---- if it wasn't for broken sewers, septics and water lines we would have very little to do these days.

I agree about the bartering--- we are doing it already with other trades people. Over the years something has motivated me to stock up on stuff. I have 5 gallon pails of flour, sugar, rice, beans, oatmeal, pasta, dehydrated potatoes, wheat--- and a lot of canned goods. My husband hunts, we have a large garden and lots of fruit trees and berry bushes. Getting the chickens was something that seemed natural--- we just knew in our hearts that being a self sufficient as possible was going to be important.

Things aren't good here--- there are 400 plumbers on the bench at just the one local--- we are trying to hang in there--- I DO NOT want to lay anyone off--- All I can do is pray--- and I will pray for all you guys too
