Is the egg fertile?

I had been doubting it since I saw the crack. Fingers crossed they lay a fresh pair of healthy eggs soon!

I think the nest bowl I have for them is too small. Should I replace it with a bigger one? The one there now is nailed to the shelf.

Is it's to small, I would get a bigger one.
Good job nailing it in. They tend to move around.

If you want them to lay more skip the fake eggs so that they don't waste time sitting on them. Don't do this too often though because it will put a strain on the hen's system and always provide oyster shell.

I’ll change out the nest tomorrow. So... skip fakes or keep? I’m kind of conflicted here now.

It depends on what you want.
If you want eggs soon, take the fakes out. If you aren't in a rush to get more eggs, let them sit on the fakes until they get bored and try again.

I put a big new nest bowl in there, and I left the fake for a bit and provided oyster shell.

How long do you think it will be until they lay some new eggs? Just curious.

Usually it took my pair about two weeks to lay another set of eggs, could be a bit sooner or later depending on how soon they want to try again
