Is the heat plate burning my chick?

somewhere I read of burns with a brinsa heat plate... might have been on the mama heating pad thread...

I was just emailing premier one and noticed they offer a temperature controller for $12. I might have to bite the bullet & get one. I love the plate otherwise! And I’m pretty sure my girls will be ok.

Thread update: this is the reply I got from Premier1-

I like to set the plate even at both ends. If it is too low at one end the birds can push and pack each other into the low side causing some of them to be too tight against the hot part of the plate.
Any time you see over heated feathers I would raise the plate a little.
