Is the rooster always in charge?

I wish I could post a video! I have one of the cockerel and 2 pullets free ranging while the newer pullet is watching them from the coop door. She's doing a little better now and the cockerel and largest and most dominant pullet is starting to finally accept her I believe. Something els I noticed about the new girl. She has a lot more white in her then the others, and her legs are almost white. Is this normal of a SLW? She looks jus like them just coloring is a little different.

You feel she needs to establish herself in the flock, because you're human and humans think everyone should get along and all be friends and equals. This just isn't how it works in the animal world. She feels she already knows her place in the flock, she's the Omega. Any time you have more than one of an animal, you've got an Alpha and an Omega. My Omega horse, dog and cat are all content with their places. They let the boss animal eat first, pick the best sleeping place, etc. The move out of the path of the dominant animal. They may on occasion make overtures toward the boss animal for attention or play, but as a rule the Alpha initiates contact. My animals are pretty set in their groups, and the Omegas are content with their status.

When my boss mare Daffy comes into Omega mare Amy's eating space and pins her against the wall and won't let her out of the stall while she (Daffy) eats, do I wish Amy would haul off and kick Daffy? Sometimes. Amy's quite a bit larger than Daffy, but it's not size, it's dominance. Amy will never challenge Daffy, she'll just make herself small up against the wall while Daffy eats her choice. Does it bug me sometimes? Yep. Can I change things? Nope.

And just in case anyone reads that and thinks Amy's starving....Nope!
Omega Amy...

Dominant Daffy....
