Is there a breed of cat that is a better mouser?

I've always had gray or yellow tabby cats that are indeed called mousers. Have had my gray for 13 years be will get any mouse or mole or chipmunk. He's quite fat. But he loves being outside even though he was an indoor cat for half his life. He is afraid of the chickens, which is funny.

I have 8 that are great hunters, and one who is not. 5 of them are indoor/outdoor, and 3 are totally outdoor cats. All were born to feral mothers, but we took and hand raised them when they were anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks old. 7 of them do not roam( 3 boys, 4 girls) and the others will take off for up to a week and then come back (1 boy, 1 girl) The totally indoor girl is just lazy and let a mouse run around her room for a whole day before we sent the dogs up to get it.

All the others (including one with an amputated paw) will take down anything from a small squirrel to a bug if they can catch it. They are all super friendly and will come when called, even if they are in the cornfireld. I have a 14yr old male that has been outside all his life and he will hop right up on your lap and purr if you sit down. I also had a 17 year old that fought a raccoon and won, with only minor cuts.

This Decker Rat Terrier has a mouse, a rat, and a cute little bunny

under his belt already. I've only had him 2 months and he's only 4 months old. I got him to tear foxes in half.

As far as cats go, you can't beat a Maine Coon (the one on the right). I've seen him take Pigmy Nuthatches out of mid-air. Rambo (on the left) is a ferel kitty rescued from a barn and is the only one I'll leave out at night. These animals presence alone is enough to scare off any pests. Not even a fly stands a chance around here.

Manx, Manx, Manx. My family always had manx cats when I was growing up. I have a male and female now & they are very predatorial. They get alot of mice out in the nearby fields and keep the farmhouse free of mice. They are very dog like and will protect their yard and follow you around where ever you go.

I also have a pair of original mountain curs. They are a squirrel-coon hunting type dogs, and since I dont have many squirrels here on the plains, they have taken to rodents. They will hunt their own, or take them away from the cats as soon as they see a cat with one. But after they are dead. They also alert to snakes, particularly the prairie rattlers we have. I found a grey fox dead last week past the chicken coop, & I had been losing some chickens. I suspect my male cur got him.

We have a barn cat who was feral and has become the best little mouse hunter I have seen. She is small in size and stature, but comes from a Celtic breed which has six toes on each paw. They were breed to catch mice on ships. In fact, her name is Six Toes. She is gentle and affectionate to us and love our chickens and dog, but to mice and other small rodents and pests she becomes a Hannibal Lector. She tortures them, gives them lobotomies and then disembowls them. She is demented in her technique, but she gets the job done. Sometimes we will find heads of mice on our bedroom door step as a gift. LOL!

I think any female cat who comes from a shelter or brought in as a feral will do a good job.
