Is there a breed or rooster that is generally more quiet?

I can't tell you the quietest, but I can tell you that our Jersey Giants were LOUD all day long. So just steer clear of JGs.

A bantam BLRW might be a good choice. You minds as well get one and if he doesn't work out then you can have chicken soup or sale him.

My bantam cochin roo only crows in the morning when we wake him up (silly bird) Other than that you never hear him, if you do its not very often during the day.

I dont know quiet roosters but I have had 3 VERY LOUD all day crowers. Stay away from : New Hampshire Reds, Easter Eggers, or Black Astralorps.

I would say, for peace of mind, stick with just the hens.

Fertilized eggs taste exactly the same as unfertilized ones. Unless you know what to look for inside the egg, you would never know which you were eating. Theres no need to keep your chickens separate, unless its a personal choice

The only eggs that aren't fertilized in my group are from the hens that the roo can't catch lol

Mine cant seem to fertilize the large chickens (he's a bantam)

But I eat them regardless, you cant tell a difference from fertilized or unfertilized, taste the same, looks the same and cooks up the same
