I am having bad luck the past month with two batches of chicks and coccidiosis. I need to come up with a plan to avoid it in future batches.
I lost a young roo in the grow out pen in May. Had no clue why but now suspect coccidiosis. Then I had an outbreak among indoor chicks and I lost five. I went on vacation and came back to discover two sick birds (new babies to us in the grow out pen). Lost the girl and am treating everyone (again) but Roger the Roo is on Day 3 of Corid and still looking lethargic and ruffled.
Everyone is on Corid and medicated feed except the grow out pen which is on soy free non gmo grower.
So I keep the pens clean and the soil they are on has been bird free (although probably not wild bird free). But I need a cheat sheet or check list so I can avoid this in other batches of chicks.
Keep your fingers crossed Roger makes it. He is my son's Exchequer Leghorn roo, about 4-5 weeks old.
