i don't like going to the dentist because i hate metal on my teeth. they need to come up with plastic scrapping tools.
but at the same time i should love going to the dentist, i am 36 and have never had a cavity. i am a big wimp, so they will have to watch out for the day when i do have one.
we had well water when we were young and my mom would get us the extra floride treatments, so everytime i leave the dentist, i call her from the parking lot and the first thing out of my mom is "thank you". she will say"you must have went to the dentist, what still no cavities?"
i tell her all the time that is one of the best things she could have done for me and my siblings.... they haven't had anything major either, brother none, sister some very little ones from morning sickness constantly for six months.

Well I work @ a dentist office,and have been there 11 years, I've heard it all, and I know
everyone hates the dentist, BUT I think dentistry has come a long way over the years
and its not as bad as the thought of it. Just be sure to tell your dentist what your fears are
and he will try to make it more pleasant for you.

well they will use the shots to numb the area, but the last dentist struck a nerve and send a sharp shocking pain through my jaw. i immediatly started sweating and almost passed out from that. Sooooooo thats why the shot freaks me out. No they dont offer a discount, they are jerks. I will call and see about valium, but im sure thatll cost some $$$ too...... jerks. Ill tell them i know mahonri.... haaa

As far as premedicating with at home meds goes, I would at least call your dentist prior to going weds. and review it with him or her. You might find they can work with you about your anxiety. I worked in general dentistry for about 8 years as an assistant and had many very anxious patients much like yourself. Many did just as you plan by wearing headphones, and some did self medicate, tho most did have the "laughing gas". Are you sure the $300 is for gas or a heavier sedation. $300 does seem high for nitrous oxide. The great thing about working with kids now is they don't ever know when or if they get a "shot". yeah they were talking about nitrous oxide..... its an oral surgeons office and im not looking forward to going, the receptionist could have caredless when i said i was one of those that pass out. maybe after i pass out they can quickly give me the shot.....

Poor you!! If you were one of my little patients I could have you convinced that you were having the time of your life. You won't be having the most fun ever but hopefully it won't be as bad as you imagine.
