Is there a FAQ for those newbies starting out?

I'm after a certain egg colour and no chicks in my area so I'm looking to hatch my own with bought eggs, but have no idea where to start. Anyone link to a post with it all?

Wow that's a lot of info! Thanks I've had a read they and hopefully grasped some of the basics. Next question... Is there a list of breeders I can get fertile eggs from that people recommend? I see people posting things like 'from xyz farm stock' etc.

If you go to the BST forum, you can see replies to sale ads and beside the sellers name a +(# of positive feedbacks), click on that and you get the reviews like on ebay..
If you are looking for show type birds you probably want to check the Exhibition forum threads for whatever breed you are interested in and see where the birds you like are coming from.

Thanks kelsie, I'm not after show birds, just want pretty eggs for my kids. struggling to find anyone in Canada that's advertised eggs in the past few years.
