Is there a name for the addiction I have? egg-a-holic maybe?

Oh, I see the problem here ..... you don't have enough eggs to hatch! Send me your address, so I can help you out!

I don't like to eat eggs either. A few years ago we had 20 chickens, 19 layers, and gave the eggs away. Didn't hatch any, never have, and didn't sell any. Just gave them all away.
Why did we have chickens? They were fun! I loved watching them come running (put their heads down and their butts in the air and waddle just as fast as they can go) when I stepped out on the back deck. Had one that would come when I snapped my fingers and flew up in my arms to be petted. She was my all-time favorite. She died last year.
So we're building up our flock again only this time we're selling the eggs. Hopefully it will pay for the feed. I still don't want to hatch any eggs. Have no desire to do that yet, I'm sure it will come in time though.

Off to make an omlet.

And while I'm at it:

"My name is Mahonri and I am a hatch o holic."

Can't seem to get past that first step.

HA ha ha! You guys are funny!

Ok...I hatch my eggs, or sell them. I don't eat them. I like eggs...just not ones that come out of my chickens butt!

I feed em to the family though. They're not as familiar with the chickens as I am, so they don't care!

TOO funny!
I don't like eggs either. Once in a blue moon, I'll fry JUST the whites - never could stand the yolks - those go to the dogs. 31 chickens and 18 eggs in the bator here.

I give away some of them and 'barter' with coworkers - they all hunt & fish so I have a ready supply of venison & fish in exchange for eggs - works for me!

I'm supposed to have some Blue Andalusians "sold" -- but, they're SO cute. SO pretty. SO friendly. How can I bear to part with them? The guy can go get his own chicks somewhere else. Mine are FAMILY and have to stay here...

Enlarging the run this weekend and putting a final coat of paint on the SECOND coop...

Well.. this has been interesting. According to what I have read then I think I am sick too. I got 25 mixed Purebred Bantams at the beginning of the month. I lost a few and I felt a need to replace them so I bought 5 more chicks at the local feed store. Now of course these were to replace the ones I lost. I just put in an order for my bator which should be coming next week! Now I am searching the hatching eggs lists daily. I sit for hours just watching the babies. I am totally in love with my chicks. I am afraid I am really, really sick. Is there no cure??

You DO know the ones from the store come from a chicken's butt too, right?

Kathy - you got it! I don't have enough to hatch! lol. I need to stop. I got some in lock down right now and some in their second week in another incubator... then I have more going in on Sunday/Monday!!! I'm sure I'll get more than that later too! I really need to stop. lol.

I rather hatch to get my stock than buy from hatchery or even breeder. The only exception is my breeding stock... I really prefer POL for them, but that is so expensive... at least you know what you are getting, though. When you hatch breeding stock... you may get your hopes up on day one of incubation just to realize they are all culls once they start to feather. (Not "kill"... cull)

Then you get more layers and if you are lucky only a few roos to find a way to deal with.

HOWEVER, I'm addicted to hatching all the same. I even went out and bought a bunch of silkies from TSC to help me out with the hatching. My utility bill is OUTRAGOUS from incubators to brooding lights. I have 4 brooders going right now and two grow outs! IN THE HOUSE! I got to stop!!!

Kathy, what kind of eggs are they?
