Believe it or not, EBAY! I just bought some hatching eggs from a lady in NC for paint colored Silkies, and they're all developing nicely. Only 9 days to go! You can also buy them from breeders. Just google for example: Silkie breeders in Ohio (or your state), and you might be able to find some.I'm curious if there is a place to buy/sell hatching eggs on here?
Chicken Hatching Eggs in the Buy Sell Trade forum.I'm curious if there is a place to buy/sell hatching eggs on here?
Buyer beware as most sellers on eBay are illegally shipping hatching eggs across state lines. Every state has their own animal import regulations but all states consider hatching eggs as live poultry and are included in their regulations for importing live poultry. Most states include a minimum that the hatching eggs come from an NPIP source will the proper paperwork.Believe it or not, EBAY! Though I don't doubt the validity of your statement here, R23lk, I've never run into any problems purchasing hatching eggs that had to be shipped to me, and I've purchased several over the years. Now, of course not all of them have hatched, but I never had any legal trouble. (Maybe I've been lucky?) :/
I had an issue once, but if you just ask the seller to label it "fragile, perishable" rather than "live embryos" or "hatching eggs" you can avoid any possibility of a post office hassle.
Oh Mary, I have to apologize! I just read your post again and realize you just asked about hatching eggs here "On BYC" Sorry about that. I didn't mean to hijack your post.I'm curious if there is a place to buy/sell hatching eggs on here?
Just because you haven't run into problems does not mean that the hatching eggs were shipped legally. I admit that there is poor control over shipped hatching eggs without the proper paperwork but if a person gets caught it can turn into a big thing because you don't get to go in front of your local Justice of the Peace. Since it involves Interstate Commerce, it ends up in Federal Court.Though I don't doubt the validity of your statement here, R2elk, I've never run into any problems purchasing hatching eggs that had to be shipped to me, and I've purchased several over the years. How were they packaged? It is a gamble buying shipped eggs though....Rough handling, or extreme cold or heat can kill the embryos. So if you do find some hatching eggs, make sure they're not across the nation, and don't order in the freezing winter. I'm so lucky that mine are all developing. I hope I have a good hatch. I'm in Ohio, and my eggs came from NC. The lady I purchased from (on ebay) did excellent packaging.
