Hi all and happy Monday! I was hoping for your help on solving the mystery of the pullet or the cockerel! I have 5 chicks that are 5 weeks old today and we are beginning to see some changes...I’m keeping my fingers crossed but I’m fearing a I have a roo in my crew! What do your eyes see?

Thanks and have a great afternoon!

So the riddle continues now that the chicks are at 6.5 weeks. If you could weigh in on the pullet/roo riddle, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. Also, if there is a roo in the mix...what are the options? I am raising them for eggs and hobby and they will not be free ranging as a rule. We will have a coop for them with a run and are building a larger coop at our new house for them so we will ultimately have 2 coops. Do people ever keep a rooster in a separate area or am I simply making this too complicated as a first time chick owner? In the land of wishes and lollypops, I’d love them all to be pullets and live happily ever after...but I am afraid that is likely not the case so I am preparing for the reality and what we will need to do.

There is a Plymouth Blue Rock, WHite Leghorn, Pearl Star Leghorn, Americana, and Olive Egger(my suspected roo)

Please take a look at the updated pics and let us know what you think there are head shots and some body shots ...THANKS

Here are a couple more photos of the barred OE. She’s mouthy and sometimes so it makes me wonder...especially since her chirps sound different from the others from time to time.
