Hamburgs tend to be smaller than Leghorns, they lay fairly well, and they come in several pretty colors.

But if you keep only one chicken, it gets lonely.
And if you put two or more chickens in a small cage, they are likely to pick on each other.

So you might want to make a bigger pen and have more chickens, with more space per chicken.

Or you might want to consider quail, who are much smaller. A single quail would not be happy alone, but they are so much smaller than chickens that you can keep a small group of them in the same space that a single chicken would need.

Any kind of bird needs a certain amount of space to move around if you want it to be happy (just like people want a certain amount of space in their houses.)

My Dominiques (from Ideal Hatchery), are just as big as my Australorps.

When bred to standard they are just slightly bigger than leghorns, but hatcheries do tend to not breed to standard lol

What you had on your other post was not suitable for chickens. Please, don't place more in small cages. The other post you made you couldn't handle cleaning as often as you needed in the small cages the serama were in. How are you going to handle even more?

I think you are on the right track with the Seramas. You paid pretty good money for those so stick with it.

Giving us the actual measurements of the cage you built would help ( in inches or feet) .It would also help if we knew how many eggs you want so we can rule out the ones that don't bear confinement well or only lay a few eggs a year.
