Is there a solution for broodiness?

We had a BO broody hen a few months ago. All I did was remove her from the nest box several times a day to make sure that she got some food and water. It took about 6 weeks, but she finally stopped sitting on her own. IT was very exciting that one morning when I opened up the coop and she was the first to run out! :) She lost some weight (not gained it back yet) but she seems healthy enough and acts like her old self now. Still not laying eggs again, but I imagine that could take longer because there is less daylight now.

Good Luck!

We have a BO that has gone broody this week. We picked her off the nest this afternoon and put her outside and she screamed until two of her friends showed up to comfort her.

Now a few hours later she is up on the nest sitting on nothing.

We have no room for more birds, no way to separate a mama hen and chicks from the flock even if we did have more room so she is either going to get booted out of the nest on a regular basis, or end up in a wire cage and at last resort I'll let her sit on nothing until she gets over it!

I don't think she'll understand if I explain to her that she CAN be broody next summer when we have the barn built and have room for another flock but until then she's gonna have to try to hatch golf balls.
