I'm new to chickens and someone near me has 5 straight run Lavender Orpinton chicks for sale on Craigslist. They were born on 2/9 and 2/10. Is there any way to determine their sex? What should I look for to determine if they really are healthy LO's?

Too young to gender ID. Orpingtons can not be feather sexed. Agree with above poster about looking for signs of good health. Will they send you photos of the chicks? You can post them here. People respond pretty quick usually. 😊

This is the photo they are showing. Any opinions?

Emma says: Orpingtons mature fast so by 6 weeks they should be able to tell by the comb /wattles. In my experience the roosters tails start to grow faster...the girls tend to have a round rump until about 16 weeks...so if I was picking from straight run I'd avoid any that have tail feathers.
