Is there a way to improve my chances of having a friendly roo?

Not sure if anyone has posted this question or not, too many posts to sort through!
I want to have a rooster in my flock, but my current roo is NOT nice and I'm tired of sore legs every time I do anything with my flock. He was nice and friendly when I got him at about 12 weeks old, but after the first couple months with the hens he turned NASTY! Is there a better way to raise a roo to improve my chances of his staying friendly?

The only thing I would do is NOT cuddle with him so he respects you (when you start over with a new roo). Other than that, I think it is just up to the rooster.

I wouldn't assume it was anything you did or didn't do.

I think it depends on the roo, when they get with the girls, some of them lose their little rooster minds, they can be very mean, so don't ever underestimate a roo, a mean rooster can do serious damage especially to a child or someone not expecting anything to happen, spurs can get eyes & arteries, and they can flog you with their wings, but not all roos are like that, I've had some very docile roos that wouldn't hurt you for nothing, there are some more experianced rooster people on here that can probably guide you better, but if you have a roo already showing aggression, be careful!

I ignore my roos. I feed em, water em, give them shelter and that's it. They are here to do a job, not be my friends. I don't coddle them when their babies and I don't coddle them as adults.

I have two nice roos.

I think roos are like all men when they reach puberty. Some are sweet and charming. Others are just looking to get l**d.

Yes, buy or be given a friendly roo. Many people get rid of roos because they have too many. There are tons of really sweet roos out there looking for homes & the owners would be very happy if they didn't land up in the stewpot. Just make sure that you get one that's old enough to be finished with the teenager hormones so you don't get a surprise by having him grow up & turn mean.

Different breeds are known for their good behavior.

Sweet Rooster Breeds (from my experience):

Buff Orpington
Silver Dorking
Delaware (although the older they get the more aggressive they can get)
Bantam Cochin (by far the sweetest but mine have gotten really flighty and silly)
Java (although our Java roosters have just been stupid but never mean)

Nasty Rooster Breeds (from my experience):

Silky (By far the worst)
Barred Rock (get meaner by the year)
Rhode Island Red
Black Australorp (can get mean or are just dominant but not that bad overall)
Game Roosters are evil!

That is my limited experience. I've had really petted roosters such as my cochin bantam and my buff orpington and they were two of my best but I grew up with a mean Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock and they were evil and ignored. I don't know how much I go by coddled v/s petted.

i'd like to put a good word in for the Silky roos out there...
i have a Silky/ columbian brama x and he is the sweetest guy... he follows me everywhere and i give him kisses every day.
he is the mascot for my baseball team and goes to almost every game and every one loves him and he is definitely a ham for the camera.

i think it just depends on the individual ... just like people
