is there a way to know that a chicken is going to lay

ya i know what squatting is for but im not sure why ruby hasnt squatted again

also is 16 weeks young to start laying

20 week they should be laying. Laying birds look larger in the vent area, when compare to non laying birds.

got a question also.......
Do you HAVE to put in an artificial egg for them to know?? Or should I just let nature take its course??? If I have to use a fake egg, can I use a plastic easter egg ??? I will make sure there is no candy left in it first!!!!! THank You Paul
